About our departments
The primary focus of the department is on psychological preparation of future teachers. Therefore, the department does not provide any full-time or part-time fields of study and does not have any students (the only relevant field of study that the department could guarantee is psychology, but this course is taught at the Faculty of Arts, Palacký University). The department is a service institute of the Faculty of Education and is responsible for psychological disciplines in all teaching and non-teaching fields of study.
The preparation of future teachers is ensured through courses and counselling services in order to develop the students’ knowledge and personalities for successful coping with various issues of a psychological nature which are normal part of the teaching profession. This activity is crucial to overall readiness for the teaching profession in terms of both knowledge and skills. This mission is achieved by selected psychological courses, whose form and content corresponds with the needs of the teaching profession.
In the system of teacher preparation, psychological courses represent an irreducible and irreplaceable component. It is equal to other disciplines that support the development of the teacher qualification. The purpose of these types of courses is to prepare future teachers for addressing psychological issues from a detached professional perspective in compliance with the current state of knowledge in the area. For this reason, this type of preparation is irreplaceable in the system of teacher preparation.
In addition to this fundamental activity, the department is involved in psychological preparation in non-teaching disciplines organized by the Faculty of Education, Palacký University (this especially applies to courses in educational sciences and special education). This preparation involves additional subjects.
In the Lifelong Learning Centre of the Faculty of Education, Palacký University, the department is entirely responsible for the qualification study of educational counselling for elementary and secondary schools.
Members of the department provide practical psychological assistance to students and teachers (and their family members) in the University psychological counselling centre, which was established at the Faculty of Education, Palacký University in 1994.
