Sharing, leaving, forgiving, and returning to a common space. These are the main themes of a musical theatre project involving seven artists from Portugal/Greece, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic at Teatro Helena Sá e Costa in Porto, Portugal. One of the authors involved is Vít Zouhar from the Department of Music Education, Faculty of Education, Palacký University.
The multimedia performance was created as part of a residency project supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic within the framework of the NPO and the European Commission. The new piece is called LeavingRoom, and its world premiere took place on 27 September 2024 at Teatro Helena Sá e Costa in Porto, Portugal.
"When we started preparing this project, we had no idea what it would bring," says Vít Zouhar, composer, and vice-rector of Palacký University in Olomouc and initiator of the project. "The earthquakes, floods and finally the fires here around Porto were all new experiences that accompanied us, and which are reflected in the composition."
Slovenian director Rocc created the art direction and scenic concept. The authors of the music and performers of the show are Dimitris Andrikopoulos, Hana Hána, Ivo Medek, Sára Medková and Vít Zouhar. Lukáš Medek created the video performance.
The multimedia project LeavingRoom is also open to people from the Czech Republic! The Czech premiere will take place at the MusicOlomouc festival on 22 October 2024 at 7 pm in the Chapel of Corpus Christi at the Art Centre of Palacký University. The next reprise will take place at the New Music Encounters Plus festival in Brno at the Barka Theatre on 16 November 2024.
